What Do I Bring?

June 24, 2010

As I have read each chapter in this book, I constantly look back to the chapter title, because each little story is either answering the question that was asked through the chapter title or affirming, in some way, the statement that was made by the chapter title.

This week’s chapter is “What Do I Bring?” and we read stories about what different individuals brought with them to the communities they lived in, the people they spent time with, and life they lived. So take a few minutes to think about this one before you answer and then share with me, in a couple paragraphs, about what you bring. You can think about a special talent God has given you, a certain mindset you possess, or a character trait that you have. How do you use that attribute to affect people around you? Act like Leroy Barber (the author) asked you to write your own little chapter in this book…what would you say in answer to “What Do I Bring?”

I think i bring some laughs and serious times when I bring the character trait that God realy wants us to bring. Which is to be respetful, kind, caring, and love.

I bring a lot of laughs and some seriousness. I bring advice too. I can be kind and caring towards others and that’s what God wants us to be like. That’s what we should be like, I think. I use my abilities to help others and here is an example. I’m the peacemaker between these two friends that I have in my neighborhood. (Literally, they live down the street. They don’t go to this church.) They are brother and sister, so I often try hard to get them not to fight and when they do, I always try to get them not to. Also I give my friends advice when they need it, I cheer them up when they’re down, and I am serious when they need to talk about something serious.

I think, at least I hope, that I bring laughter and make people happy, and I really hope that God can use me and I can ask him to help me use the gifts that I have to glorify him. So I hope that I use the attributes that he gave me in that way. I think I would say what I just wrote if I had to write an answer in “what do I bring”

I hope that I can, if nothing else, at least bring advice to people who need it. I also wish to bring respect to people who probably have never received any respect throughout their whole lives.

It’s hard to try to look at yourself from a distance and tell someone what you bring, but I think I know. I am mostly a serious person that could get a job done when I have to. I try to cheer people up when they’ve been having a bad day and I love to see people smile. I hope I can use God’s traits and the gifts He’s given me to their full advantage.

I’ve taken quite a while to think about what I bring. I have thought of several things like I try to be caring, kind, and helpful. But the one thing I thought of the most was what my adult partner for our reading earlier in the year told me when we were discussing something. She told me I had empathy. I think I do too after figuring out the meanig of it. It is an ability to share another person’s feelings and emotions as if they were your own.

Something that I think, or at least hope, that I bring to the table is a good attitude to make new friends and meet many new people.

I think that something I bring is encouragement to people in need and happiness to people. I feel that these gifts are important to share with other people because they make them feel like someone cares. I also feel I give a caring attitude to everyone I meet.
